Hours after his arrest, police in Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday night began questioning Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in one of the cases related to alleged "hate speech" filed against him there.
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is facing allegations of making inflammatory speeches against a particular community, would surrender before the law, his brother and party president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Saturday.
The police have sent the tapes of the alleged speech made by MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi to three different forensic laboratories to establish its authenticity. Vicky Nanjappa reports
According to television reports, MIM supporters attacked media vans in Adilabad, where a shutdown is being observed on Wednesday.
Akbaruddin Owaisi, younger brother of MIM President and Lok Sabha member Asauddin Owaisi, received four bullet injuries and multiple dagger injuries when a gorup of his political opponents attacked him in Barkas area under his Chandrayangutta constituency in Hyderabad.
As part of further probe into the two cases, the MIM legislator was directed to appear before Investigation Officers of Nirmal (Rural) police in Adilabad district on January 7 and before the Nizambad II Town police on January 8.
While Asaduddin was booked for his alleged involvement in the attack on Congress MLC Shabbir Ali on Tuesday, a case was filed against Akbaruddin after his followers allegedly assaulted M K Mahender, a BJP civic poll candidate, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) V Satyanarayana said.
A case has been registered against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi for threatening to kill controversial Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen.
